Reflection on Washington

In terms of the educational value, is there any particular aspect of the Washington trip that you would change?

The part that I thought was most significant part of the trip from an educational perspective was the Vietnam Memorial and the Wall. The most significant part that really struck me was how many names were on the wall and the amount of Americans that we lost because they were serving our country. Another part of that memorial that i thought was interesting was the design of the wall. It was designed by a young collage girl named Maya Lin and it was very unique and creative the way she decided to design it. All the monuments that we visited throughout the trip were very interesting and unique in their own ways but this particular one stood out to me the most due to the abundance of names on the wall that was so awful and shocking.

If i could change one educational part of the trip i would have instead of going to the crime and punishment museum, go to the White house. At first i was excited to go to the crime and punishment museum but it turned out that i didn't really enjoy it as much as the other places we went. I know that it would be hard to get into the white house, but fro me i would have just wanted to stand in front of it to take a picture. To me the first thing that i think of when I hear Washington D.C is the White House. Overall though i thought the washington trip was alot of fun i learned a bunch of new stuff and i made a couple friends that i wouldn't have ever thought i would like.

If I were to changed one educational part of the trip, it would be the Crime and Punishment museum. We didn't really learn much, and we didn't get an opportunity because the hands on demonstration of solving a crime scene was short, and there was a lot to read. The actual part of the museum was O.K., but with the same issue, there wasn't a lot of time, we just had to walk through and not read. There were two parts that I did like of the museum, and those were the two virtual simulations inside the exhibits; the driving simulation, and the break-and-enter-and-shoot simulation. I would replace this museum with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. I went there two years ago, but didn't have an opportunity to see the whole thing. Overall, the Washington Trip was very informative and fun.

I would like to learned more about the pentagon. The tour didn't have that much. We learned only some facts and events. It would have been really cool if we could have special permission to eat there. We passed so many food courts and stores. In the pentagon they don't let you see much. Their security is really high! When we walked through the hall ways, we passed so much information and we didn't even get a chance to read it. Once or twice we stopped and really look at something. If you could, let the tour guides give us a special tour that's interesting and fun.

Personally I think that the whole trip was so much fun but at the same time it was also very educational and taught us a lot about Washington. I think that if there would be something to change it would only be that we should have stayed for another day just because of all the cramming that was going on. But besides of that I think that the rest of the trip was amazing and just because of the trip I really want to go back and see more.

I would try to fit the white house into the schedule. In my opinion I would replace it with the Crime and Punishment Museum. I did not find the Crime and Punishment Museum that interesting and the white house is one of the most well known spot in the world. To me that would be the only thing that I would change.

The only thing I would have changed about the washington trip was the crime and punishment museum. I understand that we couldn't have seen the holocaust museum because of a memorial service, but the next trip I wouldn't include the crime and punishment.

over all, I think that the Washington trip covered almost all the bases of a great and educational field trip. the key word being almost. Make no mistake, I greatly valued touring the pentagon, seeing the Washington monument, and experiencing the inner workings of the capital. however, i think i most enjoy learning about things when the appertain to a more hands-on attribute. in my opinion, stops such as the Newseum and the Crime and Punishment Museum were greatly effective in their educational and entertainment value, and should be visited more often on field trips such as these.

In terms of education, their was nothing I would want to change because it was all educational. I see a lot of people have commented on the Crime and Punishment Museum, but we did learn how you would find a murder. The steps a real detective would use to find the killer like fingerprints. So I thought that was the educational aspect of the museum. There were a lot of great site we visited and were very nice to see in person. The Changing of the Guard was a favorite of mine because of the significance that the soldiers are on constant guard of the tomb. Overall the trip was very well organized and planed. I liked our jam packed days because it's not everyday your in D.C. and we saw the most we could, which was good.
P.S. I do wish we could of seen the Supreme Court because it is so relevant to our curriculum.

I felt that while many places we went were very open and showed you all that there was, there was one place that was very restricted. Of course, I'm talking about he Pentagon. Even though the Pentagon was interesting at times, our grade did not find out all that much. It would be much nicer to see the holocaust museum instead (I know we couldn't go this year, but when the grade can, it should). I feel that people would get a lot more out of the holocaust museum than they got out of the Pentagon.

If there was one aspect i could change in terms of educational value on the Washington trip it would be the Pentagon. Although we learned a few things, the tour guides didn't really concept the idea of what was really in the Pentagon. In other words, they wouldn't let us eat there, or go into any of the little boutiques offered. Also, we didn't really get a chance to take all the information in. We would walk past all of the cool little summaries of events in history on the walls and not be able to take time to read or appreciate it. Every once in a while we would stop and focus on something but i wish that was consistent for everything we did in the Pentagon. Overall, it was really fun to see the Pentagon from inside its walls, however, i wish the tour guides went slower so we could stop and admire everything around us.

The only part of the trip that i would change in terms of educational value would be to go to the Holocaust Museum instead of the Crime and Punishment Museum. The crime and punishment museum was fun but i didn't feel like we learned very much, it was more of a "fun" museum than it was educational. The holocaust museum would be very educational to a lot of students. There are some people who know very little about the holocaust, and it would be a great chance for them to see what millions of people went trough during that time period. The experience would be educational and emotionally moving for many students which would make it a more worthwhile trip.

If I could change one thing about the trip educationally wise, I would not go to the Crime and Punishment Museum. I know it was just to fill in because we did not get to go to the Holocaust Museum, but if that happened in the future, go to something different. We didn't learn that much at the museum, and we could do so much more than go and solve a case. In a way, the museum was a disappointment. It was cool, it's just not the best museum out there.

If I were to change one thing about the Washington trip, it would be the Pentagon trip. It was a nice tour and all, but served practically nothing of educational importance other than some trivia. It struck many as a giant mall as opposed to our country's military base of operations. "Hey guys, we're in one of the nation's safest buildings! Let's go to the gift shop!" isn't exactly what I was expecting to see...

I spoke to my brother (who was an eighth grader at King) he said his favorite thing was the Holocaust museum which I really would’ve liked to have seen. Even Mr. Lewis recommended that we see it sometime in our lives. I would’ve switched that out with the Crime and Punishment museum, which was a big disappointment for me. There wasn’t much time, and to be honest the “solve the crime scene” was kind of tacky and wasn’t much fun, although it was the most informative. The only things that people seemed to like were the interactive video games at the museum (which I didn’t try out) but they didn’t exactly seem educational. I also think if we had learned a little more background info on the memorials we had seen I would’ve taken more time to enjoy them.

I thought the trip overall, was pretty good. The Crime and Punishment museum was ok. I didn't like solving the crime because it got really mixed up so a few other people and I were waiting around for like ten minutes to do the finger print station and when we got there the lady was all rushed and mad and everything. I also would have liked to visit the White House, but other than that, I had a really fun time.

Lauren said...

The part of the trip that I would change would be to not go to the crime and punishment museum, I felt like this museum was interesting but it took up a lot of time and I felt like I did not learn that much. I also wish we could have gone to the holocaust museum because I felt like that museum was a very important and interesting piece of our history.

I didn't go :)

Instead of the crime and punishment museum we could have gone to a number of places one of them being the smithsonian.

I personally loved the Washington trip. However, I didn't find the Crime and Punishment museum as educational and fun as I had hoped it to be. We were some what rushed through it as well, so it didn't meet my expectations. Instead, next year, the 8th graders could go somewhere that could teach them more. I also was sad we missed the holocaust museum!

I enjoyed every part of the Washington trip, becauseit was all very fascinating. I learned a lot from the museums, and also had a great experience! One thing I would change, or in this case, like to add on is maybe an extra day. The reason why is because during that extra day, I would love to go and visit the Smithsonian museum. It is a huge museum, and there are many different exhibits to explore. I'm sure everyone would love to see it!

the only part that i would change is that we had to leave so quickly when congress was in session. I thought that was the most interesting part of the entire trip, but we were only there for about 5 minutes

Personally, i would have enjoyed visiting the Smithsonian Museum. I feel that everyone would have been able to find something interesting that related to them, because i feel that at some of the other places we went to not everyone was as eagerly involved. I also wish we were given more background information on the Pentagon before actually visiting it. I know we were limited to the actual things we could tour inside the pentagon because of the high level of security, but I feel that if we were told about some of the places we might see, or told about something that we could point out, it would make the tour more exciting, having the students actually pay attention and know what theyre doing.

I appreciate the time and effort put it into the planning of the D.C trip and I can only think of one minor change that could be made to the trip. Although the Crime and Punishment museum was very interesting, I personally would have preferred going to the Holocaust Museum. I do understand that someone had made the attempt to book the Holocaust Museum and there had been an important event going on during the time of our trip.I still enjoyed the Crime and Punishment museum, but I would have preferred to got to the Holocaust museum.

If i could change one educational part of the Washington trip it would be instead of going to the crime and punishments museum, i would rather visit the hollocast museum. The reason for this is because although, i did enjoy the crime and punishment museum i personally did not think it was very educational and i didnt learn much there. The reason i say the hallocast museum instead is because i have heard great things about it and i am very intrested in the hollowcast and think it would of been a great experience. I also do not know much about the it and would of liked to learn more about what happened.

I say the most significant part of washington for me was going to the capital building and meeting Jim Himes and also watching the house come to session. Like you Mr. Lewis said that you never on any trip before got to see the house come to session and i thought that is was funny when the guy went on to long and he said "Get Real".

I would allow us more time to stay at exhibits to really absorb the educational value of each monument. I would also make us visit more museums because there are so much more that Washington has to offer than what we saw. To allow for more time and more museums I would extend the trip and make it five days like it used to be. These changes would be very helpful, but the trip as it is was still very fun.

I thought that the Washington trip was great overall and a really fun experience. If I were to change anything, I would probably take out the Crime and Punishment Museum. It was fun, but I didn't really learn as much as I would have liked to, and it seemed a bit out of place. The Pentagon seemed like a fun place to go, but in the end, as most people said, it was almost like walking through a mall. Of course, what goes on in the Pentagon is very confidential, but I would've liked to find out more about the people who worked there. I also would have liked to take advantage of the fact that Washington, D.C. is such a historical place, and see some things that were like the Capitol, where so much has happened in the last century. Lastly, I understand that we weren't able to see the Holocaust Museum, but I think it would've been very educational and one of the highlights of the trip.

I thought that the best part of the trip was the Korean War memorial. I thought that it was so cool how the statues look so real. Instead of the Crime and punishment Museum we can go somewhere else. Maybe we can go to the White House. Overall i think that the trip was very fun and i learn a lot. It was very educational and fun at the same time.

I would maybe not go to as many memorials and more mueseams. Also I would give the kids more background on each memorial so they really know what they are looking at. I know that during the trip I got confused as to which person the memorial I was looking at was commemorating. If more information on each stop was given, I think we all could have gotten ore out of the trip.

Overall I think that the Washington trip was the best school trip yet. With the variety of places we visited and the freedom we were given with our friends, I had a great time. If there was one thing I would change about the trip, it would be to include the Holocaust Museum because that would be a very interesting topic to learn about and admire. Other than that addition to the trip, the rest of the trip was near perfect.

I thought the trip was amazing but there should have been more historical monuments and museums. The Holocaust Museum would have been a great learning experience. The exhibits in the Holocaust Museum were amazing and life-changing. I would change it so we could fit in the Holocaust Museum but the rest of the trip was amazing, it was planned very well, Good Job planning the trip.

I thought this trip was very fun and educational. If i could change one thing about this trip is that instead of going to the Crime and Punishment I would much rather want to go to the White House. The home of the president! Overall I think the trip was fantastic and I think that this is by far the best trip we've had.

This trip was a great way to get a feel for the historical significance of D.C. Durning this trip I liked have the freedom to go through the museums as we wish. But for the next D.C trip you should make sure to visit the Holocaust Museum.

The only aspect of the Washington trip that that I would change was the pentagon. I think that we could have dropped the pentagon and gone to a more interesting museum like the Smithsonian. All in all I loved the trip.

I thought that the Washington Trip was absolutely great! It was nice to be given more freedoms and be trusted more by the faculty as well as the trip being a really fun experience. Like a typical teen I love my sleep and would want to be able to sleep more yet, I understand that it's not possible. Yet, overall I loved the trip and had a fantastic time!

I thought that the trip was very educational. The only thing I would change is I think we should have gone to more museums pertaining to other aspects of what we are learning such as the Folger the library and the Smithsonian Museums.

I really enjoyed the trip! ONe thing i might have changed is that i wouldve wanted to go to the Holocaust Museum. I thought that would be an interesting visit. Other than that i had a really good time.I liked how we got the rivlage to go and rome around as much as we wanted. I really appreciated that, rather then being treated like a baby. I think that the teachers did a really good job in organizing this. Thanks!

There is nothing that I would change about Washington. I loved the whole trip. I loved the Crime and Punishment Museum. I think it was a great trip and really worth going. I had a great time with my classmates and there is nothing I would change about it. It was a great memory of 8th grade.
